Job Description:
The Professional Lecturer/Artistic Director is a 12-month position, with the following mixed faculty/staff responsibilities:
Teach four theatre courses (or 12 credit hours) per academic year.
Plan and produce a minimum of four plays per academic year.
Serve as advisor to theatrical clubs (i.e., Stagefright; Seahawk Down).
Assist the chair of the Department of Performing Arts in the identification, hiring and evaluation of adjunct faculty in theatre and dance.
Assess current curriculum, staffing and potential of theatre program.
Create a plan for the growth of the theatre and dance programs, including the possibility of a major in dance.
Serve as liaison to the theatre community in the city of Newport and the surrounding region as Artistic Director of the Stanford White Casino Theatre.
Assist the Vice President for Academic Affairs and other administrators, as needed, to promote community involvement with both the University's theatre program and the Casino Theatre, including fundraising and grant-writing efforts.
Requirements:
Master's degree and significant experience in both university and community theatre, including teaching, curriculum design, directing/producing, grant-writing and fundraising.
The ideal candidate will possess the MFA or commensurate years of experience.
